John N. Felsher is a full-time award-winning freelance writer,
photographer and media consultant with more than 1,430 bylined articles in
more than 102 magazines to his credit. Among other things, he writes a
monthly column in Coastal Angler magazine and serves as the national fishing
writer for
Examiner.com .
      He's available for writing, photography and consulting assignments. As an
information professional, he can write, proof or edit such things as news
releases, advertising copy, advertorials, web copy, speeches, manuscripts,
brochures or anything else the client wants.
      Before coming to Florida in 2007, he evacuated to Arkansas when
Hurricane Rita destroyed his Louisiana home in 2005.  While in Arkansas,
Felsher wrote a weekly syndicated column for 23 newspapers.  While in Lake
Charles, La., Felsher served as outdoors editor for the
American Press, a
daily newspaper, and hosted his own hour-long live radio talk show on
multiple stations. He also hosted a weekly outdoors television show in Lake
Charles and has been a guest on numerous radio and television broadcasts.
      Ducks Unlimited named him their Conservation Writer of the Year.  The
Louisiana Wildlife Federation and the National Wildlife Federation named him
their Conservation Communicator of the Year.
Beginning to write professionally at 16 years old, Felsher has published more
than 1,200 articles for more than 90 magazines including
Field and Stream,
Outdoor Life, Sports Afield
and many other periodicals since 1977.  He's
contributed to four books.
      Felsher began his writing career as a junior in high school when he
became the outdoors editor for the Slidell, La.
Daily Times in 1977.  Leaving
Slidell in 1980 to attend the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the
University of Louisiana at Lafayette, La., he became the outdoors editor of the
Lafayette
Daily Advertiser.
      Upon graduating from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1984,
Felsher served for 12 years as a public affairs officer in the United States Air
Force.  His Air Force career took him to bases in Alabama, Texas, New York,
Oklahoma, Indiana, South Carolina, Arkansas, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.
      Felsher earned the title Public Affairs Officer of the Year for Air Force
Systems Command in 1989. In his last assignment, he served as the
commander of Detachment 3, Air Force Pacific Broadcasting Squadron in
Seoul, South Korea, a nationwide network with eight radio stations and one
television station.
      Honorably discharged as a captain in September 1996, Felsher returned
to Louisiana.  He worked for a year as the outdoors editor of the Hammond,
La.,
Daily Star before taking the job with the American Press in March 1998
where he stayed until Hurricane Rita forced him to evacuate to Arkansas in
September 2005.  He and his wife, Dawn have two sons, Daniel and Steven.
      Felsher has a bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in history
and journalism as a cum laude graduate from the University of Southwestern
Louisiana.  His master's degree from Webster University is in human
resources development where he graduated with a 3.8 G.P.A.
      He is an active member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America,
the Professional Outdoor Media Association, a former board member of the
Southeastern Outdoors Press Association, a former board member of the
Florida Outdoor Writers Association and a member of the Louisiana Outdoor
Writers Association.
